When it comes to handbags my motto has always been “the bigger the better.”

But here is my gripe with big bags… they are literally bottomless.

Sure, a huge purse allows me to carry a lot more, which is great for when I am working. But for the days when I don’t need my planner, makeup bag and laptop I am happy to lighten my load with a crossbody bag.

The LAST thing I want to be doing is digging through my bag to find my keys, especially during the winter months when it is freezing outside. I am usually that girl standing in front of my door, fishing around my bag for what seems like an eternity before I can find my keys. This also usually happens whenever it is raining, snowing or windy with gusts of up to 50 MPH. Without fail.

That is why I love “hands free” bags. They are not just for traveling and can totally be a part of your everyday style. Here are a few of my picks, which by the way, have all passed my requirements for an acceptable CBB (wide opening, zipper or secure closure, adjustable/comfortable strap and big enough to fit my iPhone 6).

Essential Wear

There are some pieces so essential to a season that you find yourself reaching for them multiple times a week. Fall calls for leggings, boots and oversized everything. That goes for the coffee, too.

Here are my top eight, can’t-be-without style necessities that I will be living in for the next few months.

Since my work “uniform” consists of all black everything, these leggings are a godsend. They are super thick, so they don’t become suddenly sheer when I bend over and they keep me nice and warm come the colder months. And yes, they are $15 at Costco and probably the best purchase you will make all year. Seriously, go ahead and buy two.

Footwear is a funny thing for me. I need comfort. But I also like to look stylish (of course). So finding a great flat or stacked heel boot that not only looks pretty but will also allow me to stand for 6+ hours at a time makes me a very happy makeup artist. Target has been my go-to for riding boots for the past few years. They are fashionable, comfortable and won’t make my credit card melt. And don’t you think they look like they cost way more than $50?!

A cozy sweater, roomy structured tote and snuggly scarf round out the rest of my essentials. I also love beanies during the fall because they are a totally acceptable way to hide a bad hair day. Or just a lazy day.

Oh, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte was probably a given, but I just needed to throw it in there for the newcomers that don’t know how much of a pedestal I put those things on.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: What I got!

It is (one of) the most wonderful times of the year. The second early access was open to Nordstrom card holders I began salivating at my computer screen. If you shop at Nordstrom (or don’t live under a rock) you know that the designer deals during this once yearly Anniversary sale are INSANE. We are talking hundreds of dollars off brand new, FALL designs. Never before seen items that are hitting stores JUST for this sale are up for grabs. Here’s what I picked up!

 

MICHAEL KORS “HAYLEY” RIDING BOOT

Sale: $216 (regular price $325)

If you remember I posted another pair of Michael Kors riding boots back in January on a “lusting for” blog. I loved that style but they were sold out everywhere in my size. I knew the second that the Anniversary Sale book came out that the first thing I was going to do was look for this years version of MK’s boots. The leather on these is so buttery and they are very comfy. I can’t wait to wear themwith dresses and oversized cardigans come fall!

TORY BURCH “PLAQUE” CROSS BODY BAG

Sale: $284 (regular price: $425)

I wasn’t planning on buying this bag. In fact, there was another super cute Michael Kors bag on (mega) sale that I wanted because it seemed great for toting my laptop around and roomy enough for all my essentials. When I checked out that bag in store it was too narrow for my laptop, so I passed on it (even though it was only $151 and a GREAT price for a MK Jet Set tote). Instead I saw this Tory bag and knew I had to have it.

Again, super soft buttery leather and it is a realistic size. Won’t fit my laptop but it WILL fit everything I need for my days off or when I am running out to the grocery store.  It also matches my boots!

HALOGEN DIAMOND SITCH WOOL BLEND WRAP

Sale: $30 (regular price: $48)

I wish you could feel how soft this wrap is- it almost feels like cashmere. I love a good scarf, and this color goes with everything! It was a great find for the price.
