Save it for a rainy day…

The East Coast is about to experience some major rainfall in the next few days thanks to a tropical storm making his way up the Atlantic. Although this summer was particularly dry and we could certainly use some rain, I am not looking forward to the next seven day (yes– it is projected to rain for seven days here in New York).

This kind of weather would make anyone want to curl up on the couch or under the covers and watch a mega marathon of chick flicks. Unfortunately most of us can’t spend our work week in PJs, but we can stay cozy and stylish even when the weather isn’t cooperating.

I am a huge fan of leggings (aren’t we all?) paired with soft knits when I am looking for ultimate comfort. This poncho is awesome on so many levels, but the rich burgundy color and the price are what sold me on it. Add in these super stylish rain boots (finally, a welly that won’t make us walk like Frankenstein) and you’ll be ready to take on all the elements.

I’m not so secretly obsessing over this M.Z. Wallace bag. I was introduced to it by my friend Jennie and ever since I have been dreaming of adding it to my closet. Quilted nylon bags are having a moment right now. I am seeing them everywhere!

Hands Free

When it comes to handbags my motto has always been “the bigger the better.”

But here is my gripe with big bags… they are literally bottomless.

Sure, a huge purse allows me to carry a lot more, which is great for when I am working. But for the days when I don’t need my planner, makeup bag and laptop I am happy to lighten my load with a crossbody bag.

The LAST thing I want to be doing is digging through my bag to find my keys, especially during the winter months when it is freezing outside. I am usually that girl standing in front of my door, fishing around my bag for what seems like an eternity before I can find my keys. This also usually happens whenever it is raining, snowing or windy with gusts of up to 50 MPH. Without fail.

That is why I love “hands free” bags. They are not just for traveling and can totally be a part of your everyday style. Here are a few of my picks, which by the way, have all passed my requirements for an acceptable CBB (wide opening, zipper or secure closure, adjustable/comfortable strap and big enough to fit my iPhone 6).

You had me at “merlot.”

With each passing season comes another hot, of-the-moment color that we all can’t get enough of. This summer it was bright teals and pinks and spring was filled with lots of yellow.

Fall brings a gorgeous array of hues that not only show up on the runways but also in nature’s beautiful cascade of foliage. I love the bold, rich jewel tone colors that we are seeing in stores now. Emeralds, royal blues, burnt oranges and browns are all great picks for this time of year and will flatter most completions. But my absolute favorite shade for fall is merlot. It is timeless and there are so many variations (burgundy, maroon, marsala, wine, dark red) to keep your wardrobe growing all season long.

Here are my favorite wine-hued picks in stores right now!

winepost

ONE [h&m blazer], TWO [charlotte russe loafers], THREE [kendra scott earrings], FOUR [michael hors bag], FIVE [heroine lipstick]. SIX [madden girl booties], SEVEN [j.crew vest], EIGHT [madewell sweater]

Which is your favorite way to wear your wine? Accessories, major style pieces or a little pop of color?

#StellaDotStyle

Each time Stella & Dot introduces a new line of jewelry I basically drool and obsesses over my iPhone as I scroll through Insta looking at ways to style the new collection. Their Fall 2015 line is no exception. Here are my favorite stand-out pieces that I will be adding to my jewelry box this season. You can shop the entire site by clicking here or scroll down to directly shop my picks.

Make a major statement with the stunning Natalie Necklace. I love cobalt blue, especially for fall. Mix it with black for an unexpected, luxe look. This is a piece that will dress up all of your basics– everything from a LBD to a white tee.

There is no cooler look than a set of stacked rings. I have tons of sets but I sometimes shy away from wearing them. Not because I don’t LOVE the look– I just can’t stand the thickness of 4-5 bands stacked up on my (usually) swollen fingers. That is why I am OBSESSED with the Maylee Ring. It gives you the look of stacked bands but without all the bulk.

I am a big believer in simple, delicate pieces. When you are in a rush to get ready you can easily mix and match no-fuss jewelry for an eclectic look. I also love layering, and I think the Bianca Lariat makes it so easy to tackle that trend. I am planning on picking this necklace up and wearing it with my monogrammed disc.

This Waverly Bag is everything! I love the contrast of the tan suede against the black leather. Plus, you can easily convert it to a larger cross body bag if you need a little extra space. Super chic and great for all seasons.

Another great layering piece! I love how rocker-chic the Legend Pendant is. I can see myself also layering this with the Bianca Lariat from above.

One thing that I love about Stella & Dot is that they donate to women’s cancer research annually. You can give back by purchasing this bracelet, which benefits the Noreen Fraser Foundation. From the S&D website: “From September 10th, 2015 until October 31st, 2015, Stella & Dot will donate 20% of the purchase price of eligible customer purchases of the Resilience Cuff, which constitutes our determination of all net proceeds for this item, to the Noreen Fraser Foundation.”

Welcome, Sweater Weather

FINALLY.

Can you hear me rejoycing?

You might, since I have my windows open. And there is a breeze. And it is glorious.

Fall, is that you?

Football season is officially here, my AC is off and I am ready to wear my most favorite thing in the entire world: oversized sweaters. It will probably be warm again tomorrow, but for tonight I am going to enjoy this amazing preview of fall. To get you all excited here is a roundup of oversized knits that I am currently salivating over.

Thought so!

It’s here!

Baubles.

I spent my Labor Day weekend eating, cleaning and shopping.

That last one was probably obvious.

On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending my friend Christie’s Chloe + Isabel pop up shop. She is a merchandiser with the company and ever since I laid eyes on her jewelry I have been hooked. I shopped the fall collection and enjoyed a bit of personalized shopping as Christie led me through the new styles.

Here are a few snaps from the event and some of my personal favorites from A Nordic Tale, C + I’s fall 2015 look book.  I picked up a few pieces to add to my ever-growing collection of C + I and after making this post I saw a couple more necklaces I need! You can shop Christie’s entire boutique here.

Essential Wear

There are some pieces so essential to a season that you find yourself reaching for them multiple times a week. Fall calls for leggings, boots and oversized everything. That goes for the coffee, too.

Here are my top eight, can’t-be-without style necessities that I will be living in for the next few months.

fallessentials

SCARF [etsy, $19], #PSL [starbucks], ANKLE BOOTS [charlotte russe, $18 on sale!], OVERSIZED SWEATER [nordstrom, $30, on sale!], BEANIE [nordstrom, $18], RIDING BOOTS [target, $50], LEGGINGS [matty m, $15], TOTE BAG [tory burch, $245]

Since my work “uniform” consists of all black everything, these leggings are a godsend. They are super thick, so they don’t become suddenly sheer when I bend over and they keep me nice and warm come the colder months. And yes, they are $15 at Costco and probably the best purchase you will make all year. Seriously, go ahead and buy two.

Footwear is a funny thing for me. I need comfort. But I also like to look stylish (of course). So finding a great flat or stacked heel boot that not only looks pretty but will also allow me to stand for 6+ hours at a time makes me a very happy makeup artist. Target has been my go-to for riding boots for the past few years. They are fashionable, comfortable and won’t make my credit card melt. And don’t you think they look like they cost way more than $50?!

A cozy sweater, roomy structured tote and snuggly scarf round out the rest of my essentials. I also love beanies during the fall because they are a totally acceptable way to hide a bad hair day. Or just a lazy day.

Oh, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte was probably a given, but I just needed to throw it in there for the newcomers that don’t know how much of a pedestal I put those things on.

Now you know.

Transitions

We are in the middle of a heat wave here in New York. It’s hot. It’s humid.

It’s not sweater weather.

But I am a firm believer in retiring my summer clothes (or at least the super summery ones– you guys know what I mean, right?) after Labor Day. Plus I already packed ’em away to make room for my new fall additions. So I kind of can’t wear them.

That is why transition pieces are so brilliant. If you dig deep you will find awesome closet staples that can easily be worn from one season into the next. And if you don’t have any of these things don’t worry, I took the liberty of picking all new duds out for you.

Happy shopping!

BOHO PANTS X SLOUCH SWEATER X FLATS

I basically lived in these relaxed, comfy pants all summer. Bring your favorite summer prints into fall by adding a simple, thin sweater and a pair of stylish flats. The structured bag is also great for those of us who need a little more organization as we get back to our daily routines. PS- all of these items are under $100 except the real leather Ralph Lauren tote, but I added a second option under $20!!!

DENIM JACKET X FLORAL DRESS X FLOPPY HAT

Screen Shot 2015-09-08 at 3.38.52 PM

A denim jacket will never go out of style. Take your favorite summer dress into fall with a cute hat, a scarf and your trusty denim. You can add knee high socks and boots if you start to feel a chill in the air. Otherwise a cute flat or even a gladiator sandal would still work! Again– all of these picks are wallet friendly! Nothing over $55!!

MILITARY VEST X STRIPED DRESS X SNAKESKIN CLUTCH

Mix patterns and textures with stripes and snakes! I love adding a vest over a simple dress. It adds layers and allows you to still have bare arms during those last few weeks of summertime sun. If it is already chilly where you live then a military jacket would work just as well. I added a long sleeve swing dress to my picks because it is so easy to wear with or without the vest. Everything here is under $100 with the exception of that insanely awesome GiGi bag!

What is your favorite way to head into fall? I love rocking a dress with riding boots. Share your style with me with the hashtag #STYLEglossblog. Can’t wait to see what you guys are wearing!

Barn Jackets

IMG_7819

Images c/o Pinterest. I do not own them.

A closet staple that I have always been keen on is the quilted barn jacket. It is a simple piece that is casual yet tailored enough to be styled so many different ways. You will get a ton of use out of this coat in both the fall and the spring. I can throw on some leggings, flats, a simple sweater and this jacket and look super pulled together without even trying. A barn jacket has become part of my unofficial fall “uniform” along with riding boots and blanket scarfs.

Here are a few of my personal picks for fabulous barn jackets for any budget.

Joan Rivers Quilted Barn Jacket, $69.12 [ON SALE]

I have wanted to order this jacket many times but I keep resisting because I already have a black one that I love! But when I look at all of the bright color ways that this brand has to offer I can’t help but salivate.  I may have to just take advantage of the Labor Day sale price and order the Khaki. Or the red. Or both! You can’t beat the price!

Ralph Lauren Turnkey Barn Jacket, $84.90 [ON SALE!]

I love the pop of print from the lining! Perfect dressed up or down. Only available in size small right now, but if that is your size  you are in luck because this is a great price!

LL Bean Women’s Quilted Riding Jacket, $139 [FREE SHIPPING]

Don’t you love this color? Shown here in the Dark Ivy, this coat comes in five color ways and in both misses’ and petite sizing. It also fashionable and functional with a an insulated lining. Does’t it just look warm?

DKNY Knit Trim Quilted Jacket, $236 [FREE SHIPPING]

This variation of the barn jacket is great for curvy or hourglass figures. The belt will help to create a waist and maintain your shape while wearing this otherwise boxy style.

Burberry Diamond Quilted Jacket, $595

Perhaps the most iconic quilted jacket and a true super splurge! I have the older version of this coat and I have worn it so many times that it has paid for itself for sure. The tailoring on this jacket just hugs the body beautifully. If you are looking to treat yourself this should do the trick!

Which one are you picking up this weekend?! Tell me in the comments!
